  4. Hardware and Other changes
  5. Tabled Comparison

iPhone 4 vs iPhone 4S Detailed Comparison

#1. Dimensions and Design Comparison between iPhone 4 vs iPhone 4S

The iPhone 4 and 4S are almost identical when it comes to the dimensions. With both phones bearing a height of 4.5 inches, width of 2.31 inches and a depth of 0.37 inches, the only difference is the weight that varies very slightly (the 4 weighs 4.8 ounces and the 4S weighs 4.9 ounces).

The design of both phones is also the same. The buttons and connectors are all in the same places, and the phone is made with the same materials. One difference to note though, is that they have re-designed the antenna on the 4S, so the weird signal loss problem of the iPhone 4 is no longer a problem on the new version.

The screen is also the same size and same resolution. It’s a 3.5 inch wide-screen Multi-Touch Retina display on both versions.

Also worth mentioning is the fact that both the 4 and 4S are now available in black or white. So, in design and dimension comparison between iPhone 4 vs iPhone 4S, there isn’t much of the difference to consider.

#2. Camera and Video comparison between iPhone 4 vs iPhone 4S

This is one of the biggest differences between the iPhone 4 and 4S. In comparing the camera and video performance between iPhone 4 vs iPhone 4S, you’d definitely find a considerable difference.

The cameras on the iPhone 4 has the following specs:

  1. 5 megapixel photo camera
  2. HD 720p video recording at up to 30fps
  3. VGA quality photos and video with the front facing camera
  4. LED flash
  5. Tap to focus and geotagging on both photo and video

The iPhone 4S has slightly better cameras with the following specs:

  1. 8 megapixel photo camera
  2. HD 1080p video recording at up to 30fps
  3. VGA quality photos and video with the front facing camera
  4. LED flash
  5. Tap to focus and geotagging on both photo and video
  6. Face detection
  7. Video stabilization

When it comes to camera and video comparison between iPhone 4 vs iPhone 4S, I don’t hesitate to say you that iPhone 4S is having slight benefit over iPhone 4 which is one of the considerable thing if you are serious about Photography.

#3. Power and Battery comparison between iPhone 4 vs iPhone 4S

Both phones use a built in rechargeable lithium-ion battery, but the charge times slightly between the two models.

Apple tells us that the iPhone 4 has:

  1. 7 hours of talk time on 3G and 14hours on 2G
  2. 300 hours standby time
  3. 6 hours internet use on 3G and 10 hours on Wi-Fi
  4. 10 hours of video playback and 40 hours of audio playback

The new iPhone 4S has the following:

  1. 8 hours of talk time on 3G and 14hours on 2G
  2. 200 hours standby time
  3. 6 hours internet use on 3G and 9 hours on Wi-Fi
  4. 10 hours of video playback and 40 hours of audio playback

So to summarise the new iPhone 4S will last longer when it comes to talk time, but less when it comes to standby and internet use. So, its again turned as even contest between iPhone 4 vs iPhone 4S again.

#4. Hardware and Other changes compared between iPhone 4 vs iPhone 4S

The main hardware changes that have been made to the newer iPhone 4S are that it now has a dual-core A5 CPU and it also has dual-core graphics. These changes are said to allow the iPhone 4S to run twice as fast than the iPhone 4.

Other differences between the 4 and the 4S include the inclusion of AirPlay Mirroring to Apple TV support and more importantly: Siri.

Siri is a new feature that is available on the new iPhone 4S, it requires the new CPU to run it, so running it on previous versions of the iPhone is impossible. In very simple terms Siri is the new updated version of the voice control function that was available on the previous iPhones.

It will allow you to do a number of things on your iPhone including: using your voice to send messages, schedule meetings, place phone calls, find the nearest italian restaurant, and more. This sounds ok already, but the best thing about it is that it understands language. So instead of recognizing certain words or phrases, it understands when you talk normally.

For instance, if you said “I’m in the mood for Italian food, what’s near by?” it would understand and show you the nearest italian restaurants.

It’s a great idea, if it works well then it will be amazing but with different accents and voices I can see it having a bit of trouble now and then.

Apple iPhone 4 Vs The Dual-Core Androids

In this article, we are going to deal with Apple iPhone vs the Dual-Core Android Mobiles. In our previous articles we have dealt with Galaxy Tab vs iPad 2, Motorola Xoom vs iPad and also about Best Tablet PCs in the Market currently.

Apple’s iPhone is the king of the current smart phone selection. When it was released over a year ago it was streets ahead of any competition out there. So what difference has a year made and which phones are the biggest threats to the iPhone 4’s dominance?

Motorola Atrix

The Atrix is a super powerful machine; with a 1GHz dual core processor it can really bust a groove. It also has excellent key board connectivity and offers a docking option to use it as the engine for a Lapdock – a laptop hybrid offering.

Aside from this it used Android 2.3, has a 4.2in screen, 3 USB connections when docked as well as up to 48GB or memory and Motorola’s WebTop OS very similar to that of a PC.

Compared to the iPhone the Atrix is a far more powerful and equally as well executed device, making it a strong contender for the position of best smart phone.

HTC Sensation

The Sensation by HTC is another very powerful device; it has a 1.2GHz dual core processor compared to the iPhones 1 GHz single core chip. It does weigh 12 grams more than the iPhone 4 but its screen is almost an inch larger and has a 540×960 resolution and a 16:9 ratio screen – ideal for watching movies.

HTC also brings its new HTC Watch app to the arena as a competitor for iTunes. Watch has over 600 films ready for streaming to HTC phones and they hope will increase with time – HTC will hope this will relieve Apple of its dominance.

The HTC also has a 8mp camera capable of 1080p playback, making it far ahead of Apple’s 5mp 720p camera. Its new user interface and 3D graphics also put it in a very strong position over that of the iPhone 4

Samsung Galaxy S II

When comparing these two phones, one must be struck by the similarities in design. The Samsung owes a lot to the iPhone 4 for its shape and design.

Once again the iPhone loses out in the power stakes with its 1GHz chip; the Samsung has a dual core 1GHz processor. It is also over 30g lighter than the iPhone, weighing in at a tiny 109g.

It also has a 4.3in Amoled display, as with the HTC, nearly an inch larger than the iPhone. The AMOLED is also nearly just as clear as the iPhones.

The Samsung like the iPhone comes in 16GB and 32GB offerings and can be pushed to 64GB like the largest iPhone by way of mini SD card.

It must be said that the three contenders definitely give the iPhone a run for its money, so with all this spirited competition about it’ll be interesting how Steve Jobs responds to put the iPhone back to its position as undisputed champion.
